Boomer Hero helps City digger out of the Sand
SHARE POST:
I was walking on Long Beach Simon’s Town yesterday morning with my wife and sons when we watched a City official get the City’s digger stuck in the sand on its way to clear the train tracks. The more he revved, the deeper it went. We then watched as an old Boomer, an Afrikaner civilian, walked up and instructed the City official on how to get out. The driver followed the instructions and was able to get out. Well done to the Boomer hero.
However, this whole incident got me thinking. When the Boomers are dead in the next 10–20 years, who will be around with the skills, culture, values, and experience to run things and help City officials? Looking at all available data, the level of education has gotten significantly worse in Cape Town and Southern Africa over the past 20 years. There are also very few apprenticeship programmes to train young men. In the past, young men went to the army where they learned valuable skills, but not long after, the army became incompetent and a proxy for foreign interests. Will many institutions bottom out in the next 10–20 years as the Boomers go?
