DA lays criminal charges against SETA leadership for missing R630 million
SHARE POST:
SETA is a public entity in South Africa whose purpose is to promote and facilitate education, training and development, particularly for so-called “previously disadvantaged” people.
Recently, the Auditor General of South Africa reported that SETA could not account for more than R630 million. The audit identified governance failures, missing records and weak internal controls.
The funds were intended to support bursaries, internships and skills development programmes. However, some projects spent as little as 22% of their allocated budgets and failed to meet their targets.
The report also noted a lack of consistent disciplinary action in cases of irregular expenditure, raising concerns about accountability within the system.
In response to the missing R630 million, the Democratic Alliance (DA) laid criminal charges against SETA leadership.
The episode adds to broader criticism of the SETA model. While it is designed to improve skills and employment outcomes, it continues to, much like the rest of South Africa, lack real accountability.
SAPS have opened a case and the DA are in possession of the CAS Number. The DA are ask for full criminal investigation and accountability for those implicated.
