FF Plus grows by 28% as DA falls by 5% in Ward 57
SHARE POST:
The Ward 57 by-election in the City of Tshwane produced a clear shift in voting patterns, even though the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained the seat. The most notable result was the strong performance of the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus), which increased its share of the vote by about 28% compared with the previous election. In this by-election the DA declined by roughly 5%.
Why is this happening? We have discussed this at length. The DA has effectively merged with the ANC and is now being hollowed out from the inside. We know this from Helen Zille’s 2012 Chatham House interview where she talked about “the same political party”, her later remarks at a BizNews conference regarding the so-called “triangle” strategy, comments by Dion George about how the DA has been captured by the ANC, and the DA’s behaviour within the Government of National Unity.
The political contest is no longer DA versus ANC. Instead, it’s now a contest between a DA–ANC alignment and the FF Plus.
What will happen in the Western Cape this year? Will continued hollowing-out of the DA by the ANC drive further growth for the Freedom Front Plus?
