Kouga municipal councillor Jacques Alexander is in stable condition after being shot at outside the Kouga Municipality Main Building in Jeffreys Bay. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight on February 29, saw Alexander sustain multiple injuries to his back.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu stated that the attack took place around 15:45 as Alexander was parking his vehicle. Two suspects allegedly fired shots at him after passing by in a Ford Laser. The suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly arrested by the police.

Additional suspects were apprehended for being in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. A 9mm pistol firearm was recovered in a nearby yard. The arrested suspects, aged between 26 and 40, face charges of attempted murder.

Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene praised the quick response of the police and law enforcement officials in arresting the suspects, highlighting the collaboration between agencies in pursuing justice and ensuring community safety.

Kouga Executive Mayor Hattingh Bornman confirmed that Alexander was taken to a hospital in Gqeberha and is currently stable. The municipality expressed gratitude to the police, law enforcement, and security companies for their swift response.

DA Eastern Cape Provincial Leader Andrew Whitfield condemned the attack, calling it politically motivated. He urged the police to intensify efforts to bring all involved to justice.
