PA takes Stellenbosch ward from DA as DA captures Uniondale from ANC

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has taken Cloetesville, Stellenbosch, from the Democratic Alliance (DA) in a closely watched by election that changed the balance of power in the local council.
The PA won the ward with 39% of the vote, finishing 177 votes ahead of the DA, which received 31%. The GOOD party secured 19% while the ANC received 9% of the vote.
The result means the DA now holds 27 seats in the 45 seat Stellenbosch council, down from 28 seats before the election. The PA now has two seats in the council and is tied with the EFF as the fourth largest party.
In George, the DA won Ward 25 in Uniondale from the ANC in another important by election contest.
The DA received 43% of the vote, while the PA finished second with 34% The ANC dropped to 14%, losing more than half of its previous support in the ward. The DA defeated the Patriotic Alliance by 223 votes and voter turnout in Lyonville stood at 58%.
