Referendum Party’s Donald Brown makes DA apologise to The Kiffness over youth leader’s tweet

Yesterday, a cheeky jibe on X from Cape musician David Scott, known by his stage name The Kiffness, could have cost the career of the DA Youth deputy chair.
The exchange began with Alan Winde complaining about budget cuts to the provincial sphere. Scott responded by saying this wouldn’t be a problem if the Cape were independent.
Lindokuhle Sixabayi, interim youth leader for the Democratic Alliance, rebuked Scott, and told him that if he doesn’t like South Africa, he can leave the country. Scott responded by saying that if this is the sort of person selected to represent the DA, they can consider his vote lost.
This exchange might have been lost in the long comments section of a large tweet, but Donald Brown of the Referendum Party, which seeks to pressure the DA into holding a referendum on Cape independence, shared the exchange on his twitter page, garnering significant attention, leading to the party apologising to Scott in private, and the offending comment being deleted.
Scott remained diplomatic and appreciative of the DA’s disciplinary response, and said he hoped that Sixabayi would learn from this experience not to behave like an EFF member.
DA executive committee member Renaldo Gouws also distanced himself from the remarks.
